How to Travel Between Osaka and Kyoto

Osaka and Kyoto are quite close to each other, only about 55 kilometers (34 miles) apart. This makes it very easy to travel between the two cities.

And yes, there are excellent railway connections between Osaka and Kyoto! You have several options:



Shinkansen (Bullet Train): This is the fastest way to travel. The Shinkansen can whisk you from Shin-Osaka Station to Kyoto Station in just about 15 minutes. JR Kyoto Line: This is a more local train line that offers a cheaper option. The Special Rapid trains on this line can get you from Osaka Station to Kyoto Station in about 30 minutes.




Kyoto


Hankyu Kyoto Line: This line connects Umeda Station in Osaka to Kawaramachi Station in Kyoto. The journey takes about 45 minutes and is a good option if you're starting in the Umeda area.

Keihan Main Line: This line connects Yodoyabashi Station in Osaka to Sanjo Station in Kyoto. It takes about 55 minutes and might be convenient depending on your starting point in Osaka.

So, you have plenty of choices when it comes to taking the train between Osaka and Kyoto. The best option for you will depend on your budget, how quickly you want to travel, and where you're starting and ending your journey in each city.

REAL ID? What to Know before the REAL ID law takes effect in 4 months

Starting May 7, 2025, you'll need a REAL ID-compliant driver's license or another acceptable form of identification for domestic air travel and entry to federal facilities.

A REAL ID is a driver's license or identification card that meets requirements set by the REAL ID Act of 2005.

What documents are required to apply for a REAL ID?
